How to see a Doctor or a Nurse1

We currently operate a triage system whereby you can speak directly to a doctor when calling the Practice. If you telephone 01236 422311 between 08:30 and 10:45 and 14:30 and 17:00 and select OPTION 1 your call will be directed to one of the duty doctors.

If you need an appointment to be seen in the practice, the doctor will book this for you.

If your problem can be dealt with during the phone call, for example, if you need some advice or a prescription, then the duty doctor can deal with this for you during the call.

The duty doctor can also book an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner or the Practice Nurse if this is what you need.

We are confident that this system will improve the service we provide to you and make it easier for you to get what you need from the Practice.

Please try to avoid coming to the Practice to make an appointment at an opening time. You should, instead, ‘phone as outlined above.

If you are unable to attend an appointment for any reason, please telephone the Practice on 01236 422311 (option 2) to cancel.

We offer a Nurse Practitioner service.

A Nurse Practitioner is an experienced nurse who has gone through further education and specialist training to develop their skills and knowledge in order to be able to diagnose and treat conditions traditionally seen by a GP.

A Nurse Practitioner is an independent practitioner. They can take a history of your health problem, do a physical examination, make a diagnosis and decide on a treatment. If a prescription is needed they can also do this without consultation with the GP and arrange admission to hospital if required.

The Nurse Practitioner can treat and if needed prescribe for:

Every day illness and flare-ups of chronic conditions such as asthma and COPD; for example coughs, colds, sore throats, earache, abdominal pain, skin problems, infections, female problems, urinary infections, diarrhoea and vomiting, bowel problems, back pain, headaches. The Nurse Practitioners can deal with all ages of patients including children and babies.

When you are given an appointment, you will be given time to attend. You should not wait more than 30 minutes from the appointment time in the waiting room without being given an explanation for any delay.

Please be aware that for GP appointments, the standard time allocated for each patient is 10 minutes.

Please always try to telephone the practice first if you think you need to be seen by a Doctor.

Nurse appointment

Please make the Receptionist aware of the purpose of your visit in order that the appropriate length of appointment can be booked.

Appointments can be made by either telephoning 01236 422311 and selecting OPTION 2, or by calling into the practice.

House Calls

These are intended for those who are either too ill to attend the practice or are housebound. Requests for house calls should be made before 10:00am by telephoning the practice and selecting OPTION 1. The duty doctor will arrange a house call for you if this is the best course of action.

Extended Hours Appointments

The Practice has appointments with a GP or Nurse Practitioner available  Monday to Friday 5:30pm to 6:30pm (excluding bank holidays) and Tuesday to Friday 7:30am to 8:30am.  If you need an appointment to be seen in the practice during these times, the doctor can book an extended hours appointment (if available) for you.   If you require one of these appointments then the you can speak directly to a doctor when calling the Practice. If you telephone 01236 422311 between 08:30 and 10:45 and 14:30 and 17:00 and select OPTION 1 your call will be directed to one of the duty doctors.
