Test results

trIf you have had some blood tests or X-rays done, you should contact the practice for the results by telephone on 01236 422311 and select OPTION 2. Please allow about 1 week for most blood test results and around 2 weeks for X-rays. We currently do not have a set time for calls about results but it would certainly be helpful if you could call late morning or afternoon in order to avoid the busy times on the phone lines.

We will only contact you about test results if some action is needed following the result (see below). When the Doctor receives your result, they will pass it back to the Secretary who will then inform you of any action required. We will contact you by sending you a letter or if we have your mobile number, we can text you. We may ask you to contact the Doctor to discuss your result and you can do this by calling in and selecting OPTION 1 between 8:30 and 10:45am or 2:30 and 5pm.

Here are some examples of how the doctor might mark your result.

  • Normal, no action required
  • Repeat test within a specified timescale – this may be requested if your result is borderline or it looks like you may developing a particular problem
  • Further tests required – this may be requested if your result shows that further tests may be needed to clarify a result. An example of this would be requesting a test of your iron levels if your initial blood test suggests that you may be lacking in iron
  • Within acceptable limits- your result may not be within the normal limits but is acceptable eg if you are a known diabetic patient your blood sugar result may be higher than normal but this would be expected and therefore acceptable
  • Discuss with the doctor -in this case, you should call the Practice and select OPTION 1 between 8.30 and 10:45am or 2:30 and 5pm.
  • You may be asked to make an appointment with the Practice Nurse

Please be assured that if your result needs quick attention, we will endeavour to contact you by telephone or next post.

If you feel you need further advice regarding your results or any ongoing symptoms that you are having then you should make an appointment.
